KISS InstaWave product review

I recently was able to review the Kiss InstaWave curler. I was a little skeptical at first because I have long hair and it tends to tangle. As you can see in the demo video below my hair came out super easy and after I got the hang of using the curler I was done with my entire hair in 10 min, usually it takes more like 20 min. I actually don't even have my product anymore because my mother hijacked it from me when I left it at home one weekend. So sigh, guess i will have to go get another one. Although it is automatic it is super easy to use and has two heat settings hi and low. The only thing that bothered me about this product is that the motor hums. However, if the curler is left on more than 90 min it shuts off by itself.

About Lisa Voisin

A Canadian-born author, Lisa Voisin spent her childhood daydreaming and making up stories, but it was her love of reading and writing in her teens that drew her to Young Adult fiction.

Lisa is also a technical writer, a meditation teacher, and the leader of the Young Writer’s Club, a local writing group for teens in her home town. A self-proclaimed coffee lover, she can usually be found writing in a local café. When she's not writing, you'll find her meditating or hiking in the mountains to counteract the side effects of drinking too much caffeine!

Though she’s lived in several cities across Canada, she currently lives in Vancouver, B.C. with her fiancé and their two cats.

The Excerpt

Michael leaned against the building’s stucco wall and rested his hands on my hips. Light from the store cast a warm gleam in his crystal blue eyes. He leaned in, and the draw to be close to him was a gravitational force. “Hello,” he said.

“Hello.” I had to get a grip. It’d been so long since we’d talked, I tried to focus on all the things I wanted to tell him. “We went to see Fatima.” His fingers caressed the sides of my waist, sending happy tingles through me. “You know, in her store…” To my own ears, my voice sounded raspy. I trembled.

“Cold?” He drew me closer, his mouth crooking into a grin.

Lost in him, I forgot all about Fatima. “You know damn well that’s not it.” I twined my arms around his back and touched the spot between his shoulder blades where his wings connected. Its warmth thawed my fingers.
He leaned in and brushed his lips along my jaw line. “Thought that was just me,” he whispered, and his breath tickled my neck. “I’ve wanted to do this for three days.”

Our lips met, and I melted into him, not caring that we were on the sidewalk, outside a deli with families shopping inside. Nor did I care that, being an angel, he had to follow very strict rules about contact with humans—especially contact of the relationship variety. Angels had the ability to enthrall humans with their touch, something Michael had to constantly keep in check. But I didn’t have to be enthralled to want to kiss him. That was my own doing. All that mattered right now was that he was here. With me.

He pulled me closer and the buzz of his energy filled me heart and soul, blocking out the rest of the world. My hands sought warmth under his leather jacket and found bare skin. I could feel the shiver from my touch surge through him. His mouth pressing more firmly against mine, he brushed a hand along my cheek and tangled it in my hair.

A dreamlike blur of light and color filled my thoughts. But then the image shifted to blood. His.

Wine Gadget Review

Add caption
I had the opportunity to review a wine aerator. I thought it was kinda neat but being a college student I felt it was a little above my class, I tend to drink my wine straight from the bottle. If I was hosting a get together though I would be all over this as it enhances the flavor of wine. Which is something I normally do not care to much about (wink wink). The tool was really easy to use and went straight on the bottle no fuss. Maybe I will bring this for my relatives holiday get together.

Makeup by One Direction Product Review

Last week I had the opportunity to try out the Makeup by One Direction product. To say I it was not what I expected would be an understatement. This is a good thing I assure you. I was a little iffy on how good of quality a makeup sponsored by a band would be. But lets start with the outside of the product and work our way in. The box is a tin so it is durable and can be reused. On the inside there is an entire look from eye-shadow to nail polish. The makeup also comes with look ideas and how to apply the makeup for those of us who are makeup illiterate.
I tried out several looks and wore them out. I did a daytime look and it stayed on pretty well. I am hoping to try out a nighttime look soon with some of the other eye shadow colors.

Here are the rundown on the different collections:
Names of the 3 collections
Take Me Home
Midnight Memories
Up All Night
(each collection has it own collection of unique makeup to create different looks)

The line will be available worldwide starting in the U.S.

Macy's - August 11th
Stage Stores – August 25th
Dillards – August 25th
Beauty Brands – August 25th
Lord and Taylor - August 25th

Black Rook by Kelly Meade book review

Brynn Atwood is a low-level Magus whose unpredictable precognitive powers have made her an outcast among her people—and an embarrassment to her highly-regarded father. After a frightening vision in which her father is murdered by a loup garou man, Brynn decides to prove herself by finding the killer, and stopping them at any cost.

Her target is Rook McQueen, the son of a small-town loup garou Alpha. Despite being the youngest of three, Rook is first in line to inherit the role of Alpha, a duty he isn't sure he's capable of fulfilling. When Brynn finally meets Rook, she doesn't expect the attraction that draws her to him—and him to her.

No longer believing him a murderer, Brynn and Rook strike an alliance to find her father's real killer. But when his older brother is targeted by an unknown enemy, Rook will have to choose between his growing feelings for Brynn and his duty as the future Alpha of his community.

Review: This was an interesting book to say the least. I expected this to be a light read from the summary but I give the author props for providing a very imaginative plot that thickens by the chapter. Brynn and Rook are a relationship that is similar to Romeo and Juliet but a lot more fun to watch develop. Not to mention Rook's brothers Knight and Bishop add to the story but they and other characters are left unexplored and hopefully there stories get told later as this book pretty much focuses on Brynn and Rook.

Breaking Fences book tour

Summary from Goodreads:

All Beatriz “Bia” Fernandes wants is to prove herself—to her family and friends—though it’s hard to prove anything with an overbearing father and three famous polo-playing older brothers. After her acceptance into college results in a heated family argument, the Brazilian girl leaves everything behind to find her own American dream.

College life away from home is perfect until the people she believes to be her friends turn on her. With lies and rumors threatening to suffocate her, Bia turns to her only freedom. Riding.

Review: I realize the book says you don't need to read the first book but I suggest you do. This is the second book in the series and I thought it had a nice change of pace. We also were able to learn more about Bia who was featured some in the first book. I thought it was great how the book stayed in the same style as the first one but had different issues and was still relatable to the young adult reader. Plus, who doesn't love a good book with horses.

Attempting to Coupon

After watching the show Extreme Couponing and being a poor college kid I decided to try my hand at couponing. On campus we receive the newspaper for free and I discovered some coupon sites online to get coupons from. I also read several blogs on understanding the coupon lingo and I will include a couple of the blogs that really helped below. I mainly couponed for beauty type items that are normally fairly expensive and I hate to spend so much money on. Just to give you an idea of my experience I will include some of my deals.

Stuff I have done

$1.02 a piece Almay Lip-gloss
At Walgreens I paired a
$2/1 manufacture coupon Almay makeup
on top of a
$5/2 Almay makeup coupon in store
= $2.04 all together.

Two Garnier Fructis Shampoos $1.00 + tax
2 Coupons (one for each bottle) $2/ 1 Garnier Fructis hair care
Kroger had on sale 2/$5
= $0.50 apiece

These are just two examples of couponing I have done and I always try to do shampoo coupons because I have a lot of hair. The other biggest thing I have learned is to read the terms on the coupon because what is pictured on the coupon is not always what all you can use it on.
Hope this has inspired or helped you, let me know some of your experiences.

Confident and classy, Jason is the complete opposite of Paige and just what she needs in her life, or so she thinks.

But before their romance has time to blossom, Paige trips and falls into the arms of a mysterious man on a drunken night out. She’s snapped by paparazzi, and newspaper headlines the next day suggest that she’s having an affair with a married footballer.

Paige finds herself instantly elevated to tabloid celebrity status which isn’t exactly a picnic, particularly when trying to juggle her new job at Fashionista magazine, a catalog of dating disasters and a nagging doubt that she maybe she can’t conquer London after all.

When a trip back to Canada for Christmas reminds Paige why she left her old life behind, she returns to London with renewed vigor realizing that while jobs, flats and men may come and go, friends in London are forever.

Beauty review of Studio Gear's Hydrating CC Cream

I recently had the opportunity to try Studio Gear's Hydrating CC Cream  in the natural shade. I honestly liked using the cream. I evened out my skin tone but it didn't feel heavy like sometimes foundation does. I also ended up wearing it out that night and I have to say my skin looked just as good with just this cream as when I go all out with all with my normally face regime.

The Romeo Club tour book stop

Summary from Goodreads:
THE ROMEO CLUB is Hitch meets The Secret of My Success.

What happens when you agree to help your brother “de-nerdify” so he can catch the attention of the popular Chloe Anders, and to everyone's surprise, he actually lands her?

And what if his equally geeky friends come running with girl wish lists of their own, offering money for your services?

Well, if you’re sixteen-year-old, Delyla Denson, then you start The Romeo Club. A secret club where she’ll teach these guys how talk, act, and be cool around girls. It’s a win-win situation.

She’ll get enough money for the awesome prom dress she’s had her eye on, and the guys, well, they’ll get dates and maybe learn how to do something other than beat the next level on their video games.

There are only two problems with this plan. One, her quarterback/track star boyfriend is getting jealous of how much time she’s spending away from him and decides to try and figure out what’s going on. And two, Delyla is kind of falling for her brother’s BFF, Trey who she’s been hanging out with a lot more. And who thanks to her help, has caught the attention of the beautiful, perfect, and popular, Portia Rickard. With Portia and Trey heating up, Delyla realizes that maybe the person she’s meant to be with has been in front of her all this time.

But falling for Trey means she’ll have to take drastic measures including sabotage, with a capital S.

About the Author
Rebekah Purdy grew up in Michigan, where she spent many late nights armed with a good book and a flashlight. When not hiding at her computer and getting lost in her stories, she enjoys reading, singing, soccer, swimming, football, camping, playing video games and hanging out with her kids. She loves the unexplainable like Bigfoot, the Dogman, and the Loch Ness Monster (lots of good story material)! She admits to still having all the books she bought throughout her childhood and teen years, and she may or may not have an obsession with anything chocolate…

Review: This was one of those cute reads that I tend to read when I go to the pool. This story has drama, cuteness, and some ahhh moments. Sometimes I felt like the story dragged a little but once I read some more it really picked up. I also enjoyed the self discovery the main character had to go through. I feel like that really brought the story around. I was glad I decided to read it and I think you will be too.

Exsanguinate by Killion Slade Book Review/Interview/Giveaway

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Today I have the honor of hosting Killion Slade author of the book Exsanguinate. Killion has been amazing and answered some question about her book for all you guys. Also, if you stick around there will be a giveaway at the end of the post.

Exsanguinate (World of Blood, #1)Goodreads Summary
A Halloween scream night theme park adventure for software gaming developer Cheyenne O'Cuinn reveals a hidden supernatural reality she never dreamed existed. Recovering from a vicious attack and her sisters’ abductions, Cheyenne must rescue her sisters from vampiric kidnappers before they’re used to breed warmongering dhampirs.

Betrayal lurks in every corner. Cheyenne must evade attackers by unconventional means through her online role-play game. She must navigate through virtual, tortuous clues and mailed body parts, which cross over from her virtuality into reality. Can a team of dragons, vampires, and werewolves come together to help her? Who can she trust? Will the help from her virtual lover become compromised when he learns of her new immortal existence and crush the fragile love they share?

Amidst an impending vampire apocalypse, Cheyenne finds herself both in conflict for survival and for her heart. Will her immortal self derail any hope of solving the multiplying puzzles before time runs out to save her sisters, herself and her humanity?

Author Interview

What are some funny or memorable experiences/stories from college or your early twenties?
In the book Exsanguinate, Harris teases Cheyenne about a spider under a toilet seat.  That is a true story of mine!  I tried to spray it with pepper spray and the damn thing jumped at me – I ran out of the bathroom screaming like a lunatic!

What inspired you to write Exsanguinate?
Truthfully, I felt it was time for a modern version of the “what if they exist” story.  I often wondered how supernatural beings would adapt to this modern world.  Gaming and social media fell right into scope, and it was time gamers were portrayed as intelligent society contributing citizens instead of 40 year olds living in their mom’s basement.

The story has online gaming aspects; did you do a lot of real life research?

Yes – quite a bit!  My husband and I met in Second Life and that is where most of the premise comes from for ExsanguiNation, but I also needed to conduct a lot of research on World of Warcraft and other multi-player role games.  I interviewed many gamers and determined to types of ways I could talk about the game without confusing a non-gamer and without boring someone who is a more advanced player.  I wanted to reach out to everyone and find a good technology balance.

I enjoyed how your book was interactive beyond just reading it; would you care to explain it a little more?

Thank you!  Yes, often times when I get done reading a book – I want MORE!  I want to learn more about the characters, their lives, and what makes them who they are.  I truly enjoy the special features on Blu-ray discs and I watch every one after a movie just so I can immerse myself further into their world.  I had so many scenes for Exsanguinate that were a blast to write, but unfortunately didn’t move the story forward so they had to be cut.  I still wanted to share those with people so I came up with the idea of the Second Screen for the book.  The hidden Easter eggs nuggets are there for anyone who wanted to read an extended gaming sequence against the Battle Kroc, or more Screepy happenings inside the Screepy Caverns.  If a person wanted to learn more about the characters, I have dossiers and pictures of the main cast that we created in Second Life.  The “extras” gave me an opportunity to tell more about the story, the cast, and allow readers to have more if they wanted it. J  I plan to do this with each roll-out of my novels.

Not to give anything away but there are some chilling areas to the story; were these hard for you to write?
Truthfully, (blushes) no – horror is one of my first genres and I can push the envelope.  I actually tamed several of the scenes down as to not turn it into a real gore fest!  In the second book however, titled Revenant, I have experienced some of the most difficult writing of my life from pulling in real life horrors and tragedies, and yes, those were incredibly difficult to write.  I was sick for days after revisiting those emotions and getting them down on paper.  I couldn’t look at the chapters for several weeks to begin editing until I was able to move through some grieving exercises.  The whole process was very cathartic, and I’m happy with how the chapters turned out.
My biggest goal is to identify real emotions within myself as to something another person might be able to identify with.  It has to feel real to me even thought this is fiction.  I want everyone to feel Cheyenne’s confusion, betrayal, horror, and fierce determination.  For it I don’t, then I have let down my reader and haven’t kept my promise to take them there, and that is not what I want to do. J
The audiobook version of Exsanguinate is due to publish on Audible in October or November of this year. Revenant, Book 2 – World of Blood series is scheduled to publish either in November or December of this year as well.
Thank you very much for your interview.  I truly enjoyed the thought provoking questions
What I thought (Review): Sometimes I have no clue if I will really like a book by reading the summary and in all honesty I was a little nervous to read this book after reading the synopsis. I am one of those people who cannot go to horror movies because I will have nightmares weeks after (slightly ashamed). However, this book was one of those rare gems that blends some horror with an engaging story and comedic action.

Even though the story contains lots of supernaturals I could really relate to the modernism of the story and loved the gaming talk without it getting to technical (will admit to being a newb). I thought that it was great how the story was really kind of a main story with different view points. That really added dimension to the story and made the plot really easy to follow along with. Not to mention one of the main characters, Cheyenne, is a hoot. She is by no means perfect but she has that personality that is very entraining without getting annoying like some females leads in other books.
P.S. If you were like me and didn't know what the title meant, it means to bleed to death or drain of blood. That's your word of the day for you GRE takers.

Breaking the Reins by Juliana Haygert Book Review

Raise your hand if you get sick of reading big long reviews. I for one do so for todays book review we are going to a condensed version of pro and cons of the book today. So now for your enjoyment I present my review of Breaking the Reins by Juliana Haygert
*new adult

Breaking the Reins (The Breaking Series, #1)Horses, mansions, tea parties, and lies are twenty-year-old Hannah Taylor’s life. To others, her family and her relationship with Eric is perfect. But she knows the truth. She lives it.

After a fire takes her grandma's life and kills her horse, Hannah's immaculate life spirals out of control. Her father disapproves of her decision to run her grandma’s ranch instead of focusing solely on learning the family business; Animal Control brings her Argus, a mistreated horse that she can't turn away even though she's not ready for another horse; and her boyfriend, Eric Bennett, a world famous polo player, becomes possessive and authoritarian. Despite her best efforts to disguise it, Hannah grows wary of him.

Then, Leonardo Fernandes struts onto the polo scene. A cocky rookie with a messy life of his own, he’s drawn to Hannah and isn’t afraid of showing it, even when Eric makes it clear she is his and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep it that way. Hannah suffers for Eric’s jealousy. The abuse only gets worse when Leo steals the title of best polo player in the world from Eric.

But the title isn’t enough for Leo. He wants Hannah too, and she can’t deny her attraction to him either. Somehow, she must find a way to break free from abusive Eric before he breaks every bone in her body.

Pros: The main character was down to earth and very relatable. Additionally, I like  how all the issues were very realistic to the age group and that no one person was prefect in this story. Plus, who doesn't love reading about horses. The storyline had a nice flow and was very easy to get into. The bilingual aspect of the book was also fascinating and I picked up a few words of Portuguese.

Cons: Being someone who has trained horses there were a couple horse related moments that made me shake my head. I also noticed a couple time where the story seemed to keeping bringing up the same issues but I guess that life for you.

Final College Formal and Jewelry Review+promo code

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Last weekend I attended my final formal as a member of my "sort of sorority" (long story). For those of you in any organization in college you probably realize how bitter sweet it is to attend your final event with the people new and old you have met with over the past four years. This formal was especially memorable because my old roomie attended with me "shout out to one of my besties."
Close up of my Jewelry

Needless to say I was really surprised when I received some jewelry from Majestical Jewelry. Can I just say the necklace and earrings I received to review were just so chic and gorgeous. Not to mention the packaging was great. The set came in a nice box with a matching jewelry bag. Trust me when I say you do not have to worry about shipping or damage because my necklace and earrings were packaged wonderfully.

Anyway, I just knew I had to wear this assemble with my dress I had picked out. The modern look of the necklace really made my classical dress take another level of elegance and style. The only issue I had was sometimes the dangly parts would get caught in the lace of my dress but what doesn't get caught in lace. The jewelry was also the perfect statement pieces. They really stood out without being to overwhelming. I suggest you check out Majestical's jewelry on there website or you can follow them at the links below.

Want your own pieces head over to Majestical's website and use the code 15DOLALSOFF  to get $15 off orders of $55 or more.

Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg, New York Times bestselling authors of The Heist, return in this action-packed, exciting adventure featuring master con artist Nicolas Fox and die-hard FBI agent Kate O’Hare. And this time around, things go from hot to nuclear when government secrets are on the line.
Internationally renowned thief and con artist Nicolas Fox is famous for running elaborate and daring scams. His greatest con of all: convincing the FBI to team him up with the only person who has ever caught him, and the only woman to ever capture his attention, Special Agent Kate O’Hare. Together they’ll go undercover to swindle and catch the world’s most wanted—and untouchable—criminals.
Their newest target is Carter Grove, a former White House chief of staff and the ruthless leader of a private security agency. Grove has stolen a rare Chinese artifact from the Smithsonian, a crime that will torpedo U.S. relations with China if it ever becomes public. Nick and Kate must work under the radar—and against the clock—to devise a plan to steal the piece back. Confronting Grove’s elite assassins, Nick and Kate rely on the skills of their ragtag crew, including a flamboyant actor, a Geek Squad techie, and a band of AARP-card-carrying mercenaries led by none other than Kate’s dad.
A daring heist and a deadly chase lead Nick and Kate from Washington, D.C., to Shanghai, from the highlands of Scotland to the underbelly of Montreal. But it’ll take more than death threats, trained henchmen, sleepless nights, and the fate of a dynasty’s priceless heirloom to outsmart Fox and O’Hare.

She's ready to take the next step with boyfriend Cole Holland, the leader of the zombie slayers…until Anima Industries, the agency controlling the zombies, launches a sneak attack, killing four of her friends. It's then she realizes that humans can be more dangerous than monsters…and the worst has only begun.

As the surviving slayers prepare for war, Ali discovers she, too, can control the zombies…and she isn't the girl she thought she was.
