Dec Book Review Roundup!

Hey y'all (insert southern accent) I am finally getting around to posting some of my book reviews. I could say I was slow because of the holidays, but I may have been binge watching Supernatural on Netflix. I have officially joined the dark side and discovered there is gif for anything from supernatural.

Now without further ado lets get to some books, heehaw (insert really bad southern accent)!

Piper Griffiths wants one thing in life: To become a Consul, a keeper of the peace between humans and daemons. There are three obstacles in her way.

The first is Lyre. Incubus. Hotter than hell and with a wicked streak to match. His greatest mission in life is to get Piper into bed and otherwise annoy the crap out of her. The second is Ash. Draconian. Powerful. Dangerous. He knows too much and reveals nothing. Also, disturbingly attractive — and scary. Did she mention scary?

The third is the Sahar Stone. Top secret magical weapon of mass destruction. Previously hidden in her Consulate until thieves broke in, went on a murder spree, and disappeared with the weapon.

And they left Piper to take the fall for their crimes.

Now she’s on the run, her dreams of becoming a Consul shattered and every daemon in the city gunning to kill her. She’s dead on her own but there’s no one she can trust — except two entirely untrustworthy daemons . . . See problems one and two.

Review: Piper is intertwined with the supernatural world but lacks the one things she needs the most to fit in, magic. This doesn't stop piper from taking on daemons and stopping at nothing to get her father back after an attack on the Consult. Piper is not alone in her mission though, as Lyre and Ash (hot glamoured boy daemons) join her. Piper does a lot of quick growing up in this book and deals with real life issues that have supernatural twists, such as, ex-lovers, new feelings, friendzoning, and parental issues. When I started reading this book I was kind of iffy on it, about two chapters in it really picked up. I really got into this book and could picture the world Marie created. I actually enjoyed this book so much that I searched for the book 2 which came out Friday and is next up on my to read list. I would give this book a 4 out 5.

The Diamond Thief
Sharon Gosling
No-one performs on the circus trapeze like 16-year-old Remy Brunel. But Remy also leads another life, prowling through the backstreets of Victorian London as a jewel thief. When she is forced to steal one of the world's most valuable diamonds, she uncovers a world of treachery and fiendish plots.

Review: Remy just has crappy luck is what I decided after reading this book, but hey it ends up okay in the end. The story is told from two different perspectives and that really reminds me of some of the books I had to read in my Brit Lit class. I thought this story was entertaining, but honestly I would only give it 2.75 stars out of 5 (who says I have to round up). It was a nice book I just felt like the plot dragged along in some parts but I really liked how some of the steam punk was incorporated into the story.

Before Astarti’s mother abandoned her to the deadly ocean tides, she gave her infant daughter a parting gift: a tattoo known as the Griever’s Mark, meant to carry her into death. But before the tide could claim her, the Earthmaker Belos, cast out by his people for his cruelty and for delving into forbidden magic, found and saved her. At least, that’s his story.
For seventeen years, Astarti has served Belos, using her control of the energy world, known as the Drift, to help Belos gain power throughout the kingdom of Kelda. Though she hates her master, the Leash he has anchored deep within her makes defiance impossible.

But when Logan, a handsome Earthmaker with his own reasons to hate Belos, recognizes that Astarti may be more than she seems, Astarti begins to unravel Belos’s lies: about her Mark, about her parents, and, most importantly, about her power. Astarti also discovers that Belos’s plans are bigger and more terrible than anyone has guessed, and she must decide: how much will she risk to stand against him?

Review: Wohoo! This story was insane can you say plot twists everywhere. I mean we are talking about magic, different realms, and kings and successions (insert lion king reference). Astarti has been dealing with crap most her life but that all changes one day when she runs into Logan. Lets just say that is the beginning of the end for Astarti. This story is action packed and never stops, the only thing that irked me was it ended in a cliffhanger (heads up), and no sequel in sight (tear). In my book this is a 4 out of 5 star book.
